Before you pack your bags, you deserve an honest picture of what student life in Georgia actually looks like for a Pakistani student. Not the brochure version β the real one. This guide is based on feedback from hundreds of students we have placed in Georgia since 2020.
Georgia is genuinely one of the best countries for Pakistani students β but like anywhere, it has its realities. Here is what to expect.
Cost of Living in Georgia (Monthly Budget)
π‘ Reality: Georgia is significantly cheaper than Western Europe. A Pakistani student can live comfortably in Tbilisi for $300β400/month including everything. This is much less than the UK ($1,500+) or USA ($1,800+).
Food in Georgia β Is Halal Available?
This is the most common question Pakistani students ask. The answer is yes β halal food is easily available in Tbilisi, especially in areas with large Muslim student populations.
- π There are several mosques in Tbilisi, mostly in the old city area
- π₯© Halal butcher shops are found near university areas and in the old town
- π Pakistani and Indian restaurants are increasingly available in Tbilisi
- π Georgian food itself features many naturally halal options (bread, cheese, vegetables, grilled meats)
- π Most supermarkets label imported halal products
Outside Tbilisi (in cities like Batumi or Kutaisi), halal options are more limited β something to factor in when choosing your university location.
Safety in Georgia
Georgia is consistently ranked as one of the safest countries for students. Pakistani students generally report feeling very safe.
- β Georgia ranks in the top 20 safest countries globally (Numbeo Crime Index)
- β Very low petty crime β pickpocketing is rare compared to other European cities
- β Georgian people are known for being hospitable to foreigners
- β Large Pakistani student community β you will not be alone
- β οΈ Like anywhere, use common sense at night in unfamiliar areas
- β οΈ Road safety: be careful crossing streets β traffic can be unpredictable
